I wish I was here all this week. There is so much to see and presentations to attend. I’ve been on the road and a slave to the Mac while here. I am heading to New Orleans in a few minutes for an aerial shoot this afternoon.
I participated in a panel discussion at American University last night that could have easily gone on for another hour or so. Some very good questions from the students about the business of photography and responses from the panelists. Tara Kocourek, the manager of photographic services for American U. moderated and led the discussion about how the industry is changing, although none of us have a crystal ball, what we saw as possibilities and potential in the future.
Jeff Watts, the staff photographer for American University gave his thoughtful opinions on the industry from what he called the working class perspective. I enjoyed his comments and advice to the students. It was solid, informative and straight to the point.
Kathleen Ewing spoke about the photographers she represents and the change from owning gallery in the city to presenting work online and the importance of human connection with her clients.
Elizabeth Cheng Krist spoke about email blasts, the Geographic and the importance of a consistent body of work. Her insights into how the Geographic is changing and the importance of why preserving the photographers time in the field to shoot is critical to the success of a story.
Thank you to Tara for the invitation to be a part of this discussion.
Very informative post and I kind of completely agree with you (except on 2 points) on what you said. Keep the good work going. Your writing style is very good and I was able to understand the post clearly even though English is my second language. PS: I have already subscribed to the blog RSS feed.
