Advertising Photographers of America (the trade organization that I belong to and also was a founding member of the DC chapter) has changed their name to ——– American Photographic Artists.
Ok.
ASMP changed theirs a while ago from magazine photographers to media photographers.
I always thought of APA as a mostly Ad Shooter organization.
Ten years ago there was an APA/Milwaukee. I was a member and served on the board a few times. At that time there was no APA/Chicago but the national people kept saying they needed one. So, APA/Midwest was formed combining Milwaukee/Chicago/St. Louis/etc.. As you might expect, almost everything started happening in Chicago. I’ve long moved out of the midwest and no longer belong to APA. Now I see only a handful of APA members from Milwaukee, at one time it was about 50 for Milwaukee along. I see Chicago only has 42 members. Not sure if it is the economy of if APA no longer fit their needs.
My guess is there aren’t enough Ad shoots so they need to broaden the membership. Problem is, you run the risk of not being focused.
Kind of sad I guess but it is the state of the photography business right now.
