Most of the shoots were in the lower Peninsula except for shooting the Mackinac Bridge at dusk and dawn while battling squadrons of mosquitos. I decided to drive up to Lake Superior one-day and spent some time in several state parks shooting pictures for myself with my technical field camera. The Nikon kit was left behind for the day and it was just me, the Alpa, Aptus 75 and the incredible Schneider 47 XL lens.

This house looked interesting to me and I shot it this morning with my Alpa Field camera and trusty Leaf Aptus back.

I took a look inside the house and it had been trashed. Garbage and destroyed furniture were scattered across the first floor rooms and the ceiling was partially collapsed.

My feeling is honestly, I am often too busy to blog or tweet about projects. I’m just trying to get the behind the scenes work done on past shoots and lining up everything that is needed for new assignments.

I just spend a week in Nevada shooting for a great client but I can’t talk about the project. I showed some personal aerials of storms and I also spend an extra day for shooting stock for my agencies. That was worthwhile. I just uploaded a pretty large group of selects to one shop and I was pleased with the editing and how they made their decisions on the keepers. Capture One keeps getting better and better – I love the color I am getting from C1 with the D3x files and of course with the Leaf MOS files. The B&W conversion from C1 are excellent. Of course, sometimes I add a wee bit of grain from the Pixel Genius plug-in or add a bit of Tri-X 800 from Exposure but most of the time, I stick with the C1 version.

I spent the weekend with my 98 year old grandmother in West Virginia. She is sharp as can be and a delight to sit back and listen as she tells stories from her youth and when my mother was young.

Her constant companion is Maggie, a mixed Labrador-Boxer who is a bundle of energy who thinks she is a lap dog.

The nest is on a pole about 90 feet from the shoreline and next to the boat launch.

Yesterday, the lovely Dr. Linda Perry and I hit the trail with our bikes to check out the nest. I loaded up my wee Nikon (the D300s) and my Leica 400mm Telyt and monopod into my trunk bag and away we went. The Leica Telyt is a small lens that breaks into two sections and is an ancient design with push-pull focus. A friend of mine and I converted the lens to Nikon mount a couple of years back.

I am not a bird shooter anymore but it was fun to see them up close. I am glad that this Osprey couple has been successful with rearing chicks. The Bald Eagle nest a half-a-mile away has not been successful for the past two years.
